Florida parents investigated after posting photo of baby with bong on Facebook

Florida parents investigated after posting photo of baby with bong on Facebook

It’s a photo that is spreading across the Internet drawing outcry and criticism. It’s also captured the attention of the Florida Department of Children and Families. The family is from Keystone Heights, Florida and the photo, posted to Facebook, shows an-11 month- old baby holding a bong to his mouth.

The photo was submitted anonymously, with a link to the online site where it was originally located, to News 4 Jax.

Florida Department of Children and Families spokesperson John Harrell spoke to News 4 Jax and said, “We are alarmed that any parent would take pictures of their child next to what is obviously drug paraphernalia.”

Channel 4’s report says that the mother is 19 years old and defended posting the photo by saying it was only a joke.

Speaking to channel 4 via Facebook she stated, “If u look at the picture u can see that there is no bowl in the TABACCO (sic) pipe. And i took a pic to show one (expletive) person and it was a mistake. I would never ever ever let him get high.”

Now that the investigation is ongoing, the mother sent a second message, stating that those concerned about the welfare of her baby were acting ‘stupid.’

She wrote, “Do you realize how serious this is? i can go to jail and he can be taken away from me. WHY would you do something so (expletive) stupid? i know what i did was stupid but i would NEVER put by baby in harm. im (sic) so nice to everyone idk (I don't know) why you would do this to me."

The mother is scheduled for a drug test tomorrow and the baby will undergo a thorough examination. If she is found to have drugs in her system, she will face legal consequences and more than likely the baby would be removed from the home.

DCF workers confirmed to Channel 4 News that they have made two prior visits to the home in question.

This is very sad to even have submitted a photo of your child like this as a joke. Keystone Heights is a small town and has small town values this type of immature action puts a dark cloud over our community.
