While checking out DJ sites I do this I am a DJ I still like to see whats new or learn new tricks I ran across this post by Best DJ Entertainment Service, I am glad to see someone else agrees with me so I had to post it and give props.
There are lots of DJ myths. Many of them would surprise you, so be ready for some shockers.
Equipment:
“All of our equipment is State Of The Art.” Sadly, this is not always true. It is important to note that when looking at a DJ service in a bridal show, you might not be looking at the exact equipment your DJ will have. This is a clever tactic that is often used to show potential clients that X DJ/entertainment/productions has great equipment (at some DJ companies, not all DJs have the same equipment). What needs to be noted is that one DJ from the above has good equipment. I can’t stress it enough (in case you haven’t guessed.) Be sure you are able to see the exact equipment that your DJ has and will use.
In terms of equipment, consider the amount of wear-and-tear. It is easy to recognize equipment that has been around the block a few times (and therefore, not “state of the art”). Worn-out carpeting on a speaker, kinked cords, banged-up anything (microphones, lights, stands) and several other factors should all be considered when looking at a DJ. Chances are, if they take good care of their equipment, they will take good care of you.
Events:
“We Specialize in Wedding Receptions.” Most mobile disc jockeys are in the business to work at wedding receptions (surprise!). This is probably the most common branch of the industry that requires services on a regular basis. At many nightclubs, bars and restaurants, a DJ is a regular employee. This enables them to have a regular schedule, etc. Most couples, on the other hand, hire entertainment services for one night. Hence, the large number of entertainers that “specialize” in wedding receptions.
“More is Better.” You guessed it. Do you really need the super huge mega system package for a party of 125 people?
Money Matters and Myths:
Tipping. Professionals don’t need tips! Would you go to a Doctor or a Mechanic and say “Great job.. here’s an extra $50”? Still, some companies maintain that they are serving you and are entitled to a tip if they do a good job (although my opinion is that clients expect great service when they sign on the dotted line.. regardless of whether or not they planned on tipping). If a company indicates that you should tip, consider it to be hidden fee that is used to avoid the simple truth; the company would prefer to increase profit margins, rather than pay the DJ more. Tipping is merely a way of paying the DJ more with a “gratuity” that comes out of your pocket.
Overtime. This is not a “myth” per se, but is another phenomenon that affects pricing. Be sure to check the details of any contract. Some prices are only for 4 hours. It is to your benefit to know what you are paying for.
